Largely inspired by the movement of dance and the plights of forlorn outcasts, Allison Schulnik has crafted an entirely new aesthetic using stop motion, sculpture and experimental animated films. Her thick, impasto paintings are equally enigmatic and expressive, filled with characters both grotesque and vulnerable. Her first music video, “Forest” was commissioned for the critically acclaimed band Grizzly Bear in 2009. She has held solo exhibitions at the Mark Moore Gallery in Santa Monica, the Tony Wight Gallery in Chicago, and Unosunove in Rome. Her work has been featured in ARTINFO, Art in America, Saatchi Daily Magazine and the Los Angeles Times among others. Allison Schulnik lives and works in Los Angeles.
